Summary:This study aimed to explore the perspectives and challenges in the conduct of the (50) novices’ Spiritual Direction in 2012 in the congregation of Saint Dominican sisters of Saint Rosa De Lima in Vietnam. This study was based on Van Kaam’s theory on Formation Field including five polarities. Qualitative and quantitative research methods were employed using the survey instrument, a researcher – made pre- tested the level of knowledge of DSSR novices on the spiritual direction issues questionnaire consisting of 44 items: eight (8) for the expectations of novices in the spiritual direction; twenty-sis (26) for the cultural –social and familial elements affect the spiritual direction of DSSR novices; ten (10) for the difficulties of DSSR novices with Directors in the spiritual direction; and interview schedule which base on the reflection of the researcher from authors include three factors ( 16) items affecting the spiritual direction of DSSR novices. The quantitative component was developed through pre- test and analysis of the result of the researcher - made perspectives and challenges scale for standardization using reliability- analysis scale, and administration and analysis of the result the standardized survey to the respondents using frequencies and standard deviation. The qualitative component included a critical description and analysis of the perspectives and challenges of respondents on spiritual direction in DSSR congregation. The results revealed the level of knowledge on the expectations and difficulties of DSSR novices on the spiritual direction in Vietnam, and the needs of the spiritual life for them.
