Instrumental help-seeking behavior, task performance and perception of performance

This study investigated the relationship between intrumental help-seeking behaviorand performance, and between insturmental help-seeking behaviour and perception of performance. The role of instrumental help seeking behavior in performance has been largely overlooked.Instrumental help-seeking responses were measured for 35 subjects in a mock interview, and correlated with task accuracy scoure, and mean performance rating scores. The moderating effects of age, gendeer and nationality were also determined.The analysis of the data revealed the follwoing results: (a) there is a strong positive relationship between instrumental help-seeking behavior and task performance; (b) there is a strong positive relationship between IHS and perception of performance; (c) the relationship between IHS and task performance is moderated by gender and age to quite a significant degree, but was not moderated by nationality in this case, and (d) the relationship between IHS and perception of performance was not moderated to a significant degree by any of the variables of age, gender or nationality.
