Summary: | Microfinance is replete with studies on why women are targeted in microfinance programs. One reason put forward is that women exhibit excellent repayment performance. However, the literature on the factors affecting women’s repayment performance is scarce especially those focusing on the experiences of Filipino women. Thus, this study’s objective is to identify the factors affecting the repayment performance of urban women microentrepreneurs in Tulong sa pagunlad Inc. (TSPI). This is an exploratory study utilizing qualitative method specifically in-depth interviews to explore the experiences of women with their microenterprises. The findings of the study revealed that the features of the women’s microenterprise are largely influenced by the women’s gender roles at home. In addition, it was found that among the characteristics of women and their household attributes that were examined in this study, it was found that educational attainment, ages of children and the husband’s occupation and income influenced the women’s microenterprise features. Also, from the microfinance mechanisms investigated in this study, only repayment schedule had an influence. This study further found that the women’s education, their children’s ages, husband’s occupation and income, the repayment schedule, and the group guarantee influenced the women’s repayment performance. |
