Summary:It is the purpose of this paper to offer some enlightenment and an attempt at a synthesis as to "the role of guidance in promoting maturity." The theme of this paper is that education deals with the whole man in his quest for maturity, that man is not only a rational and social animal, but also a religious one, in fact, the only religious one, and that guidance has a role to play in all the areas of man's progress towards maturity. I believe that most of the current books dealing with the principles of guidance and counseling neglect the religious aspect of man's personality and thus do not deal with the whole man. Hence, the religious orien­tation of some sections of this paper. In approaching the topic of man's relatedness to God, the emphasis here will be Christian, in keeping with the religious tradition of the society in which we live. But if religion is an integral part of the mature man's make-up, this religion need not be Christian. What is important, maturity-wise, is the achievement of related­ness to God, although the closer this relatedness is to the truth, the better it is for man
