This study is a humble effort to the cause of inter-religious dialogue in Myanmar by attempting to make a contrastive study of the Christian concept agapē as found in the First Epistle of John and the Buddhist concept mettā. The Buddhists scriptures, particularly the Tipitaka, and especially the Mettā Sutta, shall be used extensively to understand mettā. The study hopes to show that in spite of the differences, both Christianity and Buddhism share something so fundamental in their orientations. Both religious traditions have something to offer in the healing of the wounded and broken Myanmar society. Love can create the prosperity of lives and give birth to peace and justice.
