Description
Summary:Managing financial resources of an organization is a major challenge for Top Management particularly for Finance Head and Board of Directors. Thus, nonprofit organization (NPO) has a necessity to handle its funds (generated from donations) properly in order to survive and gain continual support from its partners through financial management cycle. However, financial management cycle is different from one organization to another particularly for NPOs. Even NPOs could have different approach and procedures in managing finances; Gawad Kalinga (GK) is not an exception. With an average of over thirty million pesos of donations received each month, approach and methods in supporting the activities of GK Finance Department varies. Presently, GK Finance Department performs its financial management cycle in manual process of using ledger books and electronic spreadsheet for report generation. By identifying the present problems of GK in managing finances of using manual process, this study aims to develop a Financial Management System (FMS) to aid GK Board of Directors and Finance Head in their decision making, financial planning, budgeting, monitoring and controlling cash flows, and streamline finance personnel activities. Development through the use of Rapid Application Development (RAD) will empower GK Board of Directors, Finance Head, and Finance personnel to further enhance its activities by enabling Financial Management Cycle online. Such transition from manual operation to a user-centered information system aims to support GK’s mission and vision.
