Summary: | With the alternative wall system that has been introduced in the market (i.e., shotcrete works), in lieu of the conventional CHB wall, construction and building materials, as well as processes and methodologies are involved in the execution of the system. The materials used in the system may have a significant impact into the environment. Some materials in the systems may have been imported due to the specific requirements of the project. These imported materials have contributed to the total environmental burden brought about by the construction as a whole. Cement, sand, water, reinforced rebar, and one sided formwork are some of the basic materials constituting the shotcrete wall system. Aside from the materials as contributors to the environmental burden, the processes or methodologies incorporated into the system may have also a significant contribution to the environmental impact, given that it is unavoidable to use some machines and electric-based tools in constructing the system. With the increase production brought about by the usage of the alternative in lieu of the conventional concrete hollow blocks system, the efficiency of the system with regards to environmental burden should be considered. |
