The impacts of globalization and the tremendous advancement of information technology are changing the way lawyers work and charge for their services. Adding to these technological breakthroughs is a growing demand for cheaper and more efficient legal services which is making outsourcing an increasing part of the legal landscape. The transfer of legal services to low-cost jurisdictions, called Legal Process Offshoring (LPO), is a growing trend in the legal industry. Today, the Philippines is considered as the second largest LPO provider, next only to India. However, there may come a time wherein the lawyers and big law firms in the Philippines will be the one to outsource legal services to LPO providers in the country. In order to better evaluate this emerging new trend in the delivery of the legal services, there is a need to understand the opportunities and risks involved as well as its ethical implications to the legal profession.
