P. (Vinaya) K. T. Pathrose This study determines the level of academic performance and its correlates in St. Mary's Girls High School Kuzhikkatussery in Kerala, India. The descriptive research design was used. A total of 150 students were randomly selected from out of the total of 270. The needed information was gathered through Brown Holtzman's Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes with the questions on demographic details. To find out the relationship between academic performance and the independent variables under study, Pearson Product-Moment was used. The combined effects were determined using multiple correlation. The t-test was applied to determine the levels of significance of the correlation coefficients. Findings showed that there was a significant positive relationship between academic performance and parents' educational attainment, economic background, study habits and study attitudes. There was no correlation between academic performance and number of siblings. Multiple r showed that there was a high combined effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that study habits, mothers' educational attainment, and study attitudes are the best predictors of academic performance. From the findings it can be concluded that low academic performance is a function of a variety of variables such as low educational attainment of parents, low economic status, poor study habits, and unfavorable attitudes of students. 1989-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/64 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Prediction of scholastic success Academic achievement Personality and academic achievement St. Mary's Girls High School Kuzhikkattussery (Kerala India) |
