Summary: | This study determines the perceptions of the R.V.M. educational management graduates on their knowledge and competence in applying management skills before and after the training program. It also finds out the perceptions of their respective superiors on these same management skills attained by the R.V.M. graduates. The descriptive method of research was used in the study. It described the profile of the R.V.M. educational management graduates. It also described the self-perceptions of the said graduates on three skills, namely: conceptual, human and technical. Lastly, it included the perceptions of the superiors of each graduate under study. Survey was the technique employed in the study. There were two groups of respondents in the study. The first group was composed of the R.V.M. graduates of educational management or school administration from 1972 to 1983. Actual number of respondents for this group was 47. The second group of respondents was composed of the 5 respective superiors of the educational management graduates, i.e., the Prefect of Studies and the Regional Superintendents of Schools of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The instrument used in gathering the data was a modified questionnaire which considered the following: 1. Cariaga's (1984) response mode and items on skills 2. Katz's (1955) definition of the conceptual, human and technical skills of an effective administrator 3. the R.V.M. School Administrator and 4. the graduate schools' educational management program objectives.
Descriptive statistics, specifically the frequency, percentage and mode were used in developing the profile of the respondents. The mean was used to determine the general performance of the group in applying management skills. The correlated t-test was used in finding the significant differences: a. in the self-perceived management skills of the R.V.M. educational management graduates before and after the training program b. in the superiors' perceptions of the educational management graduates' skills before and after the training program c. between the self-perceived management skills of the graduates and the superiors' perceptions of the management skills of the graduates before and after the training program. The findings reveal that both graduates and the superiors perceived an improvement on the graduates' degree of knowledge and degree of competence in applying management skills after the training program. |
