It reveals that significant management today is faced with problems in the areas of machine utilization, cost of maintenance and operations, and managerial competence. Findings show that the machines are being inefficiently and ineffectively utilized cost of maintaining and operating the machines are increasing and that the department is being poorly managed. On the basis of the above findings, it can be concluded that the inefficiency and underutilization of machines may be attributed to indiscriminate distribution of machines to various plants that increasing cost is inevitable due to rising prices and that poor management is due not because of technical incompetence but rather due to lack of managerial experience and lack of direction and support from management. It is recommended that the machines at various locations be recalled and centralized. Also, on the basis of increasing prices and in the light of various alternatives to reduce cost, the alternative which cuts cost the most should be chosen. And lastly, as regards the management of the department, upper management should set up organizational objectives to guide the manager in directing his activities towards a goal. The manager should be made to realize that his past performance was not up to par and that there certainly is room for improvement.
