Discussed in this study are the history, aims, philosophy, student population, key personnel, socio-economic and geographical location of Notre Dame of M'lang. The concept of guidance and guidance services, the roles of the administrator, guidance committee, counselor, teachers, specialists, and guidance secretary in the guidance program were defined. The author also explained the different guidance services to students, parents, teachers, and administrators, plus the need for guidance facilities and budget. The necessity for evaluating the guidance system program is presented, with the different evaluative instruments that could be used -- 2nd work. This study aims to propose to prospective as well as practicing guidance counselors a group counseling approach as well as specific techniques and methods of group counseling. It is hoped that these practices will minimize the setbacks encountered by counselors in a group counseling. The paper noted group counseling not only as an economical but also an effective guidance tool to help counselees learn desired behavior and unlearn maladaptive ones. The paper discusses the group counseling practices of local guidance counselors and presents the distinct features of behavioral group counseling approach. It also presents the evaluation of methods and techniques in group counseling as used by a number of local guidance counselors in the Greater Manila areas, by using concepts and principles of group counseling. These areas are : specification and formulation of goal or goals, recruitment procedures and participation, topics to be covered in structuring, factors determining grouping, learning or modification techniques employed, measurement of success of counseling effort and duration of group counseling -- 3rd work. This study has attempted to synthesize available data pertinent to a better understanding and proper extinction of the behavioral difficulties confronting Rosalia (house-helper) and Mrs. Albaro (homeowner). Several instruments were employed to gather these data: interviews and observations, counselees autobiography, and psychological tests like the Sacks Sentence Completion Tests, Guilford-Zimmermann Temperament Survey, Mental Health Analysis and 16 Personality Factor. The interviews conducted seemed to reveal the following maladaptive behaviors : Rosalias pouting, sulking, missing meals, inability to sleep, slamming doors, and homesickness. Mrs. Albaros problems on the other hand seemed to be her worry and distress occasioned by the behavior of Rosalia. With the earlier-mentioned difficulties identified, this counselor-in-training set the counseling goals to have the maladaptive behaviors extinguished. To accomplish these goals, the counselor applied remedial measures by employing the behavioral counseling approach (SPAM Treatment). The counselor prescribed role shift and positive reinforcement to Mrs, Albaro, instructing her on the role she had to perform in the assignments of work, public reprimands and the withholding of time for rest and recreation. Specifically, Mrs. Albaro was instructed to lessen the workloads of Rosalia, keep her mouth shut when tempted to scold and give the helper a Sunday break for rest and recreation. Then a reinforcement system was planned, consisting of Mrs. Albaros paying Rosalias jeepney fares on Sundays, and verbally complimenting Rosalias effort expended on her job. The counselor, on the other hand, verbally reinforced both Rosalia and Mrs. Albaro on their progress towards the goals set. From all indications, it seems that the effort expended in pursuing this case has come to a successful and heart-warming conclusion. |
