Summary: | This paper aims to propose a program for a Department of Pastoral Services in Manila Doctors' Hospital, serving the patients as well as the personnel working in the institution. A description of MDH through observation, informal and incidental interviews, data provided by the administrator, assistant administrator, director of Nursing Service, director of In-service Education, and the personnel director was done. Also, a survey of the needs, problems, and opinion of the patients and personnel of the hospital was conducted. It was found that the Department for Pastoral Services was acceptable to the administration, patients, and personnel of MDH. The survey showed that the priority problems of the patients were fear of sickness and its outcome, financial difficulties, and personal insecurities. The problems of the personnel included financial difficulties, relationship with co-workers, and relationship with superiors. The guidance services found to favorably lend themselves to the clinical pastoral ministry which could improve the service to patients and personnel were counseling service, information service, follow-up service, and training service. The following were the objectives of the Pastoral Services which were formulated based on the needs, problems, and situation of the persons to be served by the department : 1) Patients, during their stay in the hospital, would be able to integrate suffering into their lives in a meaningful and Christian way within the limitations of their situation with as little emotional disturbance as possible 2) The relatives, considered important in the immediate environment of the patient, could give the support and encouragement needed by the patient and 3) The person working in the hospital would develop into a Christian worker aware of his dignity and uniqueness, manifests self-direction in his personal and professional life, and committed to the participation in Christ's healing ministry.
