v. 1. This study proposes an organized drug education program for the college students of De La Salle College, Manila. The descriptive and historical methods of research were used in this study. The data and information utilized were based on the school catalog, the student guide for the school year 1972-73, personal observations, interviews with the former Drug Counselor, and the researcher's experiences as a part-time counselor in the Undergraduate Guidance Department. The drug education program proposed was based on the philosophy supporting a developmental approach to all students. The proposed program aimed to guide the students' emotional and social development establish desirable health habits and attitudes to be able to distinguish between pseudo-pleasures and genuine satisfaction acquaint the students with authentic information about drugs and the problems associated with their use develop awareness and understanding of the personal and sociological problems arising from the misuse of drugs and help those who take drugs by counseling and referrals to rehabilitation centers for treatment. The preliminary phase in the implementation of the program was the organization of the Drug Education Committee. Phase I included activities like the celebration of Drug Education Week, which may feature activities such as information drive for students and faculty, field trips to rehabilitation centers, etc. Drug education was also proposed to be included in the curriculum. Phase II involved research and studies to find out the extent of drug usage among the student population, the proportion of students actually sampling drugs, and an approximation as to the number of hard core drug users in the school. In the proposed set-up, the Drug Education Committee is under the Dean of Student Affairs, and the members of the Committee will work under the direct supervision of the Counseling Coordinator.

One way of carrying out this objective is by way of in-plant visits to selected small-scale industries so that the process of manufacturing the particular product can be identified as well as the types of training needed by the workers, their salary scales, etc. for purposes of developing career materials to encourage entrepreneurship, training for job entry, and employment. This study is a way of implementing the project. It is an attempt to present occupational information about the vinegar industry in the country. This study confined itself to the study of one vinegar manufacturer because it is the only existing vinegar plant in the country that manufactures vinegar out of molasses from sugarcane. Data were gathered from the formal interviews with the plants manager, chemist, assistant general manager, and employees. The writer conducted the interview in the plant site. Observations done in the plant enabled the writer to have a first-hand information about the process of manufacturing vinegar. Findings were supplemented by readings and library research on topics related to the subject. The areas of the study include the historical background of the company, the company's organizational profile, salaries and methods of payment, benefits, apprenticeship, and qualifications for employment. Then, the processes of manufacturing vinegar were discussed. The last chapter is in itself an occupational monograph about the vinegar manufacturing industry. It is hoped that it would serve as models for counselors in their vocational gu

Being able to finish her course could have presented no problems for her because of her good intellectual qualities but the turn of event was very swift for her for she found herself enmeshed in a deep emotional problems. Her deep emotional involvement with a male classmate affected her so much. She learned to love him but she cannot imagine how he can profess love for her when he did not deny that he was also involved with somebody else. Suddenly, she decided to forget him but which she thinks is hard, because the more she tried to forget, the more she remembered him. She expressed strong feeling of hatred for him. As good counseling necessitates thorough background knowledge of the counselee, pertinent information was gathered. Psychological tests were administered to the counselee. These were the SRA Verbal Test Form A, The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, The Guilford-Zimmerman Temperament Survey and Edwards Personal Preference Schedule. Interviews with the counselee and the significant others in her life was also done by the counselor. The subjects autobiography went a long way in enabling the counselor to know the counselee better. The counselee has a tendency to keep her problems to herself, which is an off-shoot of her secretive, isolationistic nature as observed by the counselor and as revealed by her personality tests. It was compounded by a sad experience of her boyfriends betrayal of her trust. The Inner Circle Strategy used by the counselor did something to influence her to reveal the thing that was bothering her. The insight-building interview utilized the non-directive technique. Acceptance as a nurturing, lifting attitude was offered to the counselee to give her the feeling of being unconditionally understood, liked, and respected. The SPAM treatment helped in extinguishing the undesirable behavior of brooding over a broken love relationship. The counselor and the counselee pinpointed three def |
