It also aims to propose changes, modifications, and expansions to improve the program. This study involved 156 third and fourth year college students, and 24 full-time faculty members. The main instruments used in this descriptive survey were the Student Inventory of Guidance Awareness and Teacher Inventory of Guidance Awareness by D. Johnson (1968). The data obtained through the questionnaires were supplemented by information gathered through personal observations and interviews. The college Student Handbook, SPCD Handbook of Administration, readings from guidance and counseling books and journals as well as annual reports and records in the guidance office were also used. The findings were used as the bases on which the proposed guidance program was planned. Considering the evidences which pointed out the need for improving the guidance program, modifications and expansions were proposed. The Individual Inventory and Testing Service was separated into two services. The Placement Service was expanded by combining it with the Vocational Guidance Service and Follow-up Service. The Counseling Service and the Information Service were improved through the introduction of new activities. Additional services were included in the program, namely, the Services to the Administrators, Teachers and Parents, and the Research and Evaluation Service. The proposed program included the philosophy, objectives, guidelines for action, personnel, budget, and facilities needed. The second part of the study aims to determine the relationship between the results of the two admission tests and the academic performance in the first semester of freshmen students at St. Paul College of Dumaguete, school year 1973-74. The subjects of this study were 80 college freshmen from the Colleges of Commerce, Liberal Arts and Education. The instruments used were the Otis Self-Administering Test of Mental Ability, and the School and College Ability Test. Simple correlation, multiple correlation, partial correlation, partial regression coefficients and multiple regression equations were used to determine the relationships between the two tests and the academic performance of the students. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that while there was a substantial positive correlation between GA and IQ, there was a slight, almost negligible correlation between GA and SCAT. The findings further showed that there was also a slight, almost negligible negative correlation between IQ and SCAT. The investigation has shown that IQ was evidently a better predictor of academic performance than the SCAT. 1974-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/279 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Educational counseling St. Paul College Dumaguete (Philippines) Counseling
