This study proposes a formal guidance program for Jose L. Valencia Academy. The descriptive method of research was utilized in this study. Unstructured interviews with the school staff personnel, students, and parents of policies, objectives, and philosophy of the school analysis of school documents study of other pertinent records and researches on guidance theories and principles were utilized in order to determine the bases for organizing a guidance program for the school. Impressions, personal observation, and experiences were utilized in order to have additional information needed in this study. In the proposed guidance program, the information and testing services were added to the existing services which included individual inventory, placement, follow-up, orientation, counseling, health, and religious services. The proposed program also included recommendations for a guidance office with fixtures and an operational budget. A full-time and well-qualified guidance counselor with a clerk was recommended to lead in carrying on the functions of the guidance work. This study also included an in-service training program for the staff members of the school to properly orient them to the guidance practices and functions in the school. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that an organized guidance program was a felt need in the school. The students have problems which they can not possibly solve by themselves. Foremost among these were poor relations with teachers as well as their parents, academic insecurities, insubordination, finances, and career vocational planning. The problems of the students were not met due to the inability of the present school staff to handle them. The absence of a full-time and well-qualified guidance counselor impeded the administrative and supervisory functions of the school principal, who also conducted guidance and counseling activities. The present services of the guidance program also needed to be modified, improved, and strengthened, and the information and testing services needed to be added to the existing services. An in-service training for the staff, the support and leadership of the administration, the parents' involvement, an accessible guidance office with the needed staff and equipment, and a provision for a reasonable budget would contribute to the proper and effective implementation of the guidance program. 1975-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/316 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Educational counseling Counselors--In-service training Jose L.
