Summary:The survey of the developmental needs of the students in selected Catholic secondary schools and colleges in Bangkok Thailand has been designed to assess the adolescent student's needs and problems related to guidance in 5 maturational areas : physical, mental, social, self and vocational. It was a cross-sectional study covering female and male students from grades 7 to college sophomore. The sample totaling 3,213 were from 12 secondary schools belonging to 7 religious orders, and 5 colleges in Bangkok Metropolitan. Included also was a survey on the attitudes of the administrators, teachers and parents in those 12 schools towards the student's needs and problems related to the prevailing educational climate and the student's needs for guidance. The respondents were : 10 administrators, 136 teachers and 630 parents. The researcher developed 2 sets of instruments in this survey : 1) the Student Needs Inventory (SNI), for the students, and 2) the Guidance Survey Questionnaire (GSQ) for the administrators, teachers and parents. The answering of the Inventory and the Questionnaire was done on a 4-point continuum code, to measure the percentage of agreement response as well as the degree of those needs. The data obtained were computerized and tabulated, using 3 units of measurement : 1) the percentage of the positive response 2) the weight mean score expressing the degree of positive response on a Scale of Ten (or ST score) and 3) the overall weight mean score of both positive and negative responses expressed on a Single Integrated Scale of Ten (or SST score). The data were presented separately but parallel for female and male population in each grade level, employing the mean score and the percentage in the hierarchical ranking and measuring the degree of needs. Maturational areas mean scores were used to compare the developmental needs at succeeding grade levels. On the other hand, the Spearman rank correlation coefficient was employed to determine the level of relationship of need between factorial sub-groups and the population in grade 10.
