This study determines the status of secondary physics education in Region III, Department of Education and Culture for the school year 1976-1977. This is a normative survey using the questionnaire to gather data. The questionnaires were distributed using stratified random sampling to the 30 physics teachers in the region. Extensive readings in libraries on the subject were also undertaken. Based on the analysis of the data, the following conclusions were made : 1. Most physics teachers have inadequate academic preparation and professional training. 2. Teaching physics is hampered by inadequate facilities, laboratory equipment and instructional materials which are the necessary adjuncts and indispensable in the teaching-learning process. 3. In general, the public, private and the vocational high schools included in the study cannot supply sufficient number of physics books and reference materials to their students. 4. Students lack adequate background in the fundamentals of mathematics which is very much needed in the study of physics. 5. Community resources are used by some teachers thus making the teaching of physics more relevant and related to everyday living. 6. Some physics teachers are improvising their own laboratory equipment. 7. Lack of funds for buying laboratory equipment, chemicals, and supplies is a problem in almost all the high schools investigated. The writer further concluded that the teaching of physics in Region III, Department of Education and Culture can be improved if the problems of teachers and students can be solved. The administration and school officials can help them by encouraging the teachers to have adequate academic preparation and to be professionally trained and by helping them obtain sufficient instructional materials, physical facilities and instructional activities to be used in the teaching of physics. 1977-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/419 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Physics--Study and teaching Physics
