Summary:The study is conducted in the province of Davao del Norte during the school year 1978-1979. All the teachers of the ten catholic schools in the Prelature of Tagum are selected as subjects. The main purpose of the study is to ascertain the attitudes of high school teachers toward in-service education, to determine the difference of attitudes between male and female teachers toward in-service education, and to determine whether certain factors such as sex and years of teaching experience are related to teacher attitudes. A descriptive survey method of study is used. A Teacher Attitude Inventory Instrument is constructed and administered to the subjects. Male and female respondents numbered 160 from which 36 were males and 124 were females. Scoring and statistical treatment were made to find out the desired results of the study. Responses were given weights and scores were arranged in intervals to serve as basic unit of analysis and interpretation. The results of the computation of the general mean scores of respondents revealed positive attitudes toward in-service education. To test the significance between the attitudes of male and female teachers toward in-service education, t-test was used in computing scores and general means. The results conclude that there is no significant difference between the attitudes of male and female teachers toward in-service education. On the other hand, to test the relationship between teachers' years of teaching and their attitudes toward in-service education, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between teachers' years of teaching and their attitudes toward in-service education. The relationship is moderate and negative, implying that the longer the teaching experience the teacher has, the less favorable are his attitudes toward in-service education.
