Extraction and analysis of oil from terminalia catappa nut

The nut used in this work was officially identified as Terminalia catappa nut. Solvent extraction in a Soxhlet apparatus was used to separate the nut oil which was found to contain 52.8 percent fixed oil. The physical and chemical properties were analyzed and the results obtained were specific gravi...

The nut used in this work was officially identified as Terminalia catappa nut. Solvent extraction in a Soxhlet apparatus was used to separate the nut oil which was found to contain 52.8 percent fixed oil. The physical and chemical properties were analyzed and the results obtained were specific gravity at 25 degrees centigrade, 0.9101 refractive index at 25 degrees centigrade, 1.4653 saponification number 192.81, iodine number (Hanus) 44.19 and acid value 1.81. Peroxide value after 24 days was computed to be 0.035 meq peroxide per gram sample. The components analyzed by gas chromatographic methods and supported by infrared spectrum analysis were palmitate 35.36 percent, stearate 3.62 percent, oleate 34.89 percent, and linoleate 26.10 percent. 1984-06-01T07:00:00Z text application/pdf https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/1037 https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=7875&context=etd_masteral Master's Theses English Animo Repository Terminalia catappa Extraction (Chemistry) Chemistry
