An analysis of teacher-made achievement test in high school physics in the province of Cagayan

This is an analytical study of the test items prepared and administered by high school physics teachers in the province of Cagayan. The analysis is concentrated on the type of test items constructed in relation to the cognitive domain and/or the type of objective examinations. The Selected Variables like degree, professional growth, length of teaching experience and teaching load is correlated with the weighted values of the test and also with percentages of objective test items in each category. Four sets of test questions for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grading periods for the school year 1982-83 were obtained from each of the 29 teachers represented in this study. The test items were classified according to the categories in Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives namely: knowledge, comprehension and application and also in the type of objective test multiple choice, completion, matching type and alternate response. The percentages for each category mentioned above were computed. The weighted values for each category were also obtained. The point biserial correlation was used in determining correlation coefficient and the T-test for independent samples were used in determining significant difference. The study revealed the following results. 1. Most of the items in the test were on knowledge and the most popular objective examination is the completion type. 2. Degree and in-service training of teachers are significantly related to the weighted values of the items and the type of objective tests that are prepared. 3. BSE graduates prepare better test items according to the criteria set. 4. Teachers who attended in-service training prepared better test items according to criteria set. From the findings, the following conclusions were obtained: 1. Completion and multiple choice items are the most popular of the objective test items prepared by teachers. 2.
