This study attempts to design and implement an automated enrolment system with the following main features: the automatic course assignment, the automatic scheduling, the automatic assessment and printing of enrolment assessment form (EAF) and official receipt (OR). De La Salle University enrolment process was used as the basis in designing the automated enrolment system. The automated enrolment system (AES) in this study refers to an enrolment process done by the computer with minimum human interventions. The proposed automated enrolment system (AES) has the following features: the in-query, the automatic course projection, the automatic course assignment, the automatic scheduling, the automatic assessment, the automatic printing of EAF and OR, the on-line adjustment, the on-line validation, the generation of reports and the full automatic enrolment. The AES is menu driven. In this study, however, only the main features were implemented. These are the automatic course projection, the automatic course assignment, the automatic scheduling, the automatic assessment, and the automatic printing of EAF and OR. The Hierarchical Functional Design was used in this study. The different tools and methodologies applied are the following: the structured design (SD), the Hierarchical Input-Process-Output (HIPO), the data flow diagram (DFD), the data dictionary (DD) and the program design language (PDL). The implementing language and hardware are COBOL and the PDP 11/34 of DLSU, respectively. The indexed file organization was used in all implemented files. In this study, the disk storage requirements of all indexed sequential files needed by DLSU to implement the AES was computed. Based on these computations and confirmed by testing results, the author recommends the following with regard to implementing the AES institutionally: 1) that the DLSU's PDP 11/34 and its two disk drives which carry 67 MB removable disk is adequate 2) that the Pilot System Method be used in the implementation, so as to allow corrections and/or modification during conversion 3) that back-up and recovery plans be initiated and 4) that further study be made on the management aspects of AES. 1985-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/1144 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Computerized enrolment system Enrollment Computer Sciences |
