This experimental study was undertaken to find out the effectiveness of Sadhana prayer program in enhancing the self-concept of the early adolescents in the 13 - 15 age group. Specifically, this study attempted to answer the following questions: Is there a significant difference in the overall self-concept scores and the sub-scale scores (as indicated by Tennessee Self-Concept Scale) of subjects before and after undergoing Sadhana treatment? Is there a significant difference in the gain scores between the experimental and control groups? Thirty-six first year high school students of the St. Peter the Apostle High School, Manila were randomly assigned to two groups: 18 each in both Experimental and Control groups. Randomized pretest posttest control group design was used in this study. The Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (Fitts, 1965) was used to measure the self-concept of the subjects. Studentized t-test for independent samples was used to determine the significant difference and gains in both Experimental and Control groups. The level of significance was set at .05 level. The subjects who received Sadhana treatment have significant scores in total P. as well as in six out of eight sub-scale scores, viz., self-satisfaction, behaviour, physical self, moral-ethical self, personal self and social self (p .05 or p .01). The control group also showed significant scores in Total P and in two sub-scales, viz., Self-satisfaction and Physical self (p .05 or p .01). There was significant difference in the gain scores between the Experimental and Control group in Total P., Self-satisfaction, Behaviour, Moral-Ethical self, Personal self and Social self (p .05 or p .01). Based on the above findings, the conclusion was made that Sadhana program was effective in enhancing self-concept. Recommendations given in the study included a delayed posttest be made to check the stability of the gain scores, a survey of the needs and problems of subjects to be integrated in the program implementation, individual direction or counseling to be given along with Sadhana to resolve factors that may hinder some from entering into the experiential prayer, and that the facilitator first undergo Sadhana program before conducting it for others. 1978-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/1172 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Self-perception in adolescence Self-perception in adolescence -- Religious aspects Self Concept -- in adolescence Counseling
