The study investigated the effectiveness of a weekend rational emotive program on irrational thinking that causes mathematics anxiety in 20 female college students. Experimental and control groups, each comprising ten subjects chosen through random assignment were used. Both groups were pretested using the Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale (MARS). The experimental group was exposed to the treatment while the control group was not exposed to any form of treatment. Posttest was given 11 days after the pretest of both groups. Results showed the control group did not show significant decrease in mathematics anxiety while the experimental group showed significant decrease at a significance level (F = 119.558, df = 1,17, p .05), using the Analysis of Covariance as statistical treatment. It was found that the weekend rational emotive program was effective in reducing mathematics anxiety and was perceived beneficial to the participants of the study and helped develop self-confidence, self-acceptance and awareness. In conclusion, the Weekend Rational Emotive Program resulted in a significant difference between the experimental and control groups' posttest on the MARS and was found effective for treatment. 1989-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/1223 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Math anxiety Mathematics -- Study and teaching -- Psychological aspects |
