A morpho-anatomical study of two populations of Lunathyrium japonicum (Thunberg) Kurata, a species complex in the Philippines

Two populations of the fern Lunathyrium japonicum were studied in order to assess their identity as members of the same species. Plants were collected from several localities in the Baguio area, Benguet, Luzon and from Mount Makiling, Laguna, Luzon. The two populations differed in the color of the stipe when live, laminar shape, pinna margin and angle of attachment, and size and color of stipe trichomes. The two populations could not be differentiated by their anatomical features which were found to be similar. When segregated, the plants from Baguio should be called Deparia petersenii, and those from Mount Makiling, Deparia confluens.
