Description
Summary:Commonly-used medicinal plants sold in Quiapo, Manila were screened for contamination with aflatoxin-producing Aspergillus flavus. Of the 40 medicinal plants screened, only two showed contamination by A. flavus. These plants are Premna odorata (alagaw) and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (gumamela). The A. flavus isolates from the two medicinal plants were tested for aflatoxin production, by the agar-fluorescence method, using coconut agar medium (CAM). Results of the agar-flourescence assays showed that the A. flavus isolates were strains negative for aflatoxin production.
