Description
Summary:The focus of this study is the development and validation of an instrument to measure the stress level of men and women in the religious in midlife, be they priests, Brothers or Sisters. The study is an instrument-development project. Middle-aged men and women religious (priests, Brothers, and Sisters) ranging in age between 40 and 55, representing 18 different Orders and Congregations of men and 25 Congregations of women, and working in various parts of the country, comprised the subjects of the study. Interviews and survey questionnaires were used to gather data for the study. The data taken from the interview and survey questionnaire were subjected to a frequency count to determine which concepts are more commonly held than others. Item analysis yielded descriptive data consisting of the mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis of the variables the item-total correlation of each of the items, and the reliability of coefficient. In searching for the content domain of the Stress Inventory, the results are presented as Sources of Stress, Indicators of Stress, and Stress Behaviors. The following conclusions were suggested by an analysis of the study: 1. The sources of stress among men and women religious in midlife are interpersonal relationships both inside and outside the community, their job, community living itself, and the family they left. 2. Based on the results of the statistical analyses of the data, it may be concluded that the instrument is valide and reliable.
