A descriptive and materials development study on the psychological counseling services in Metro Manila was undertaken for the purpose of providing information which may address situational problems and concerns of counseling in centers and of counselors. A survey questionnaire was used in collecting necessary data regarding administrators' characteristics, counselors' qualifications, other staff members, characteristics of the clientele and the various services. Five private practitioners and twenty psychological counseling centers consisting of eight social homes, twelve centers for counseling and nine telephone counseling hotlines constituted the sample of the study. Administrators were found to be predominantly female, 46 - 50 years old, with a doctoral degree in either clinical psychology or medicine, and spending time doing administrative and supervisory work. Most directors preferred staff members who were mature college graduates who had underwent training or who had social worker license to practice. A big number of professionals working in the centers were secretaries followed by doctors and nurses. Clients were mostly students coming from Metro Manila or the provinces, belonging to the 21 - 40 age group and who liked to be counseled privately regarding certain personal-social concerns. Lastly, individual counseling was found to be the core service among psychological counseling services followed by group and family counseling. Giving seminars, lectures and conferences were also found as core services of most centers. Telephone counseling service was found to be a special, distinct service in nine centers with one fully engaged in this kind of work. As most of the information were deemed confidential, only telephone numbers were given. A directory of psychological counseling services is provided in pamphlet form with an alphabetical, detailed presentation of the center, address, telephone number, year started, director's name, contact person, services and fees.
