Summary:Samples of Thelephora sp., Trametes aspera, Polyporus sp., Daedalea ambigua, and Lepiota sp.1 collected from Batangas and Poria sp., Hydnaceae sp., Fomes sp., and Lepiota sp.2 collected from Cavite are studied to determine bioactivities. Five extracts showed significant antimicrobial activity. Poria sp. and Hydnaceae sp. showed moderate toxicity while Fomes sp. appeared to be highly toxic based on brine shrimp bio-assay. Thelephora sp. which showed inhibitory effect on seven different microorganisms was investigated further. Fractionation of the Ethyl acetate extract of Thelephora sp. by alumina quick column chromatography afforded fourteen fractions. A major fraction was found active against five different microorganisms causing skin diseases and tuberculosis. This fraction was also significantly toxic to brine shrimps. Electrospray and electron impact mass spectroscopic data of this fraction showed mass fragments m/z 60, 73, 85, 145, and 163 which are characteristic fragments of sugars. FAB-MS data showed two parent ions: 795 (M + Na) which was the major component and 767 (M + Na) for the minor component. The 1H nmr and 13C nmr data showed the presence of four monosaccharide components namely two galactose and one molecule each of rhamnose and xylose. A structure is proposed for the isolate. The major component of the fraction CGF of C. gunnii was identified as campesterol. This isolate was found active against B. subtilis, E. coli, and C. albicans.
