This study is an analysis of the level of readiness for Algebra of entering Engineering freshmen who have undergone the new Secondary Education Development Program (SEDP).The descriptive method was used in the study. The respondents of this study were all the first year Civil and Industrial Engineering students of the University of the Assumption in San Fernando, Pampanga in the first semester of SY 1993-1994. The instruments of the study included a teacher-made, validated diagnostic test and the Brown-Holtzman Study Habits, and Attitudes Toward Mathematics Test. To statistically analyze the data, the means and standard deviations were computed. Then, the extent of relationship between readiness for College Algebra and some variables was found. The Statistical Assistance for Research (STAR) was also used. The following conclusions were drawn:1. Some freshmen Engineering students had an average performance in their high school algebra and English 2. The freshmen Engineering students were not prepared in all of the subject areas tested, except for the subject area involving circles and,3. Readiness for College Algebra was significantly related to all of the independent variables of the study. College Algebra was most significantly related to the students' high school average in Algebra, and work-method category of the study habits. It is recommended that administrators and teachers consider the average performance of the respondents in their (1) high school Algebra, (2) high school English, and (3) NCEE overall rating. Students should be given the necessary instructions and facilities so that they can improve in the aforementioned areas. 1994-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/1657 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Mathematical readiness Engineering students Algebra Mathematics -- Study and teaching University of the Assumption Pampanga Algebra Mathematics |
