Summary: | The study develops the Student and Faculty Handbooks of the Our Lady of Pilar Montessori Center based on Borg's and Gall's Procedure in handbook development. A committee was created to establish the need for the two handbooks and determine and develop the contents of the handbooks. After having developed the applicable contents to the OLPMC set-up, a preliminary field try out in the form of an experimental copy evaluation was done and the revision of the experimental copy based on the checklists that were distributed. The respondents were the administrators, teachers, parents, third year and fourth year students. A total number of 122 for the Faculty Handbook and 153 for the Student Handbook. Data were obtained through surveys, interviews, observations and documentary analysis. They were analyzed with the descriptive use of statistics. The study identified 78 key functions and duties of the OLPMC faculty and 126 behavioral guidelines for students. Two sets of handbooks were developed by the researcher: a faculty handbook and a student handbook. For the Faculty Handbook, the study concluded that: All items in the duties of the OLPMC Teacher checklist were very much applicable. The items on post-class, during class, selected and seasonal duties to be executed by the OLPMC Teacher were needed based on the checklist. However, they are not clearly understood by the teacher and therefore are not performed or are unconsciously being performed. During and after class items were received with apprehensions. A printed handbook is responsive to faculty needs.
For the Student Handbook, the following conclusions were made: All items in the Student Guidelines and Information were very much applicable. The items on discipline procedures, OLPMC mission statement and objectives, organizational set-up, admission requirements, grading system, honor and awards guidelines, graduations, student activities were needed based on the checklist. However, they were not delineated clearly, therefore have not been practiced or if they were practiced, there was no clear-cut policies. The items on demerit system, tutoring and fees were received with apprehension if the items should be included in the handbook. Printed copy of the Student Handbook containing policies are responsive to the needs of the students. |
