Summary: | Crop-content analysis of 40 zebra doves (Geopelia striata) conducted in Colon, Maasim, South Cotabato from May to August, 1985 using the aggregate dry weight method revealed 29 food items. Plant matter comprised 96.24 percent of the total dry weight of food eaten by zebra doves. Fruits and seeds were the major plant type consumed by dry weight (68.12 percent) and frequency of occurrence (54.39 percent). Insect larvae were consumed every month but only in minor proportion. Zebra doves fed largely on fruits and seeds especially those from the most abundant weeds in the area. |
