The Manila Banking Corporation (TMBC) was closed on May 27, 1987 and placed under the management and control of the Central Bank of the Philippines, then by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Since TMBC's assets, specifically real estate property, have increased in value, the shareholders led by the heirs of the late Vicente G. Puyat initiated discussions with the BSP to rehabilitate the bank. At present, the bank's rehabilitation had been granted and reopens in the last quarter of 1997.As the Philippine economy recovers, banking has experienced a dramatic growth in business. Banking is now increasingly tough and competitive business. Customers have become more sophisticated demanding new and better services. There is now a high level of competition among banks and new entrants to maintain or expand their customer base. Banks face the battle for the customer's perception of the best and more convenient services. The waves of new information technologies offer tremendous opportunities and pose grave threats for banks. A bank's ability to survive and stay competitive greatly depend on its ability to harness the rapidly changing information technology and business environment. The study aims to develop a three-year Strategic Information Systems Plan for the Manila Banking Corporation in order to take advantage of the IT opportunities and to survive the tough and competitive business environment. The plan would enhance and facilitate the efforts of the business that are considered most critical. It would provide management with viable strategic business options and force the IS function to seek opportunities where IT can be used for competitive advantage. 1998-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/1904 Master's Theses Animo Repository Management information systems Computer systems Banks and banking Strategic planning Information technology Computer and Systems Architecture Management Information Systems |
