This study seeks to find out the personal and social adjustment of workers as related to job performance using a descriptive normative survey of research. This is a status trend survey that deals with the prevailing characteristics of service personnel of a distributing firm. The personal variables of family income, educational attainment, years of work experience and length of stay with the company were obtained. How much factors affected and influenced the level of adjustment were likewise determined. The respondents of the study were all 36 engineers and mechanics who are deployed in various project sites in the country and abroad rendering installation and maintenance jobs. Results of the study revealed that personal variables of family income and educational attainment strongly influenced their feeling of self-worth and emotional stability (personal adjustment). On the area of social adjustment, the type of education and length of stay with the current company strongly affected the way they conform with set norms of the society and how they relate to their co-workers and superiors, and members of their family and the community. Results of the study showed that workers who have high regard of themselves and are emotionally stable (personal adjustment), are more likely to have harmonious relations with others (social adjustment) and, perform well on their work. Likewise, socially adjusted workers are more likely to perform well on their job. This study also suggests that the level of workers' personal adjustment is a good predictor of their performance on the job. Although different researches made in the past cited stress as an important factor that influence job performance, the findings of the study revealed that stressful situations brought about by frequent changes of work assignments did not affect workers' performance on the job. Workers' high performance may be attributed to the following factors: 1) they have the innate motivation to be productive 2) they are determined to strive towards attainment of their goals 3) they have favorable attitudes towards work 4) they like the kind of work that they are doing 5) they are contented with the salary and benefits received from the company 6) they have been exposed to the same kind of job for a considerable time and that they have already learned to adjust to their work and working environment. It is believed that in many instances, workers' failure to adjust on their job and work environment is caused by personality deficiencies. Thus, the use of personality tests such as the instrument used in this study, The California Test of Personality is important. Personality tests should be used as a tool in selecting applicants for new positions, in determining training requirements of workers and in some instances, may be used in counseling workers. 1998-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/1936 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Social adjustment Job performance Employees Work Adjustment (Psycholgy) Psychology Industrial Psychology |
