Summary: | The majority of information systems created have catered mainly to the needs of individual users and only provide informal or incidental sharing among groups or communities of users. This underscores the need to develop formal information exchange architectures specifically for organizations. This work describes a multiagent-based information trading floor (ITF) designed to support the sharing and dissemination of information. The ITF is a federation of specialized agents that perform cooperative information gathering for a defined set of users. Communication between agents occurs as they service user requests. These interactions are governed by conversion policies which are defined using KQML. A prototype was constructed to demonstrate the agent interactions. This provides a venue that allows for the visual inspection of the model using a graphical simulation of agent conversions. The ITF is intended to service organizational information needs. It provides intelligent information retrieval services that extend the functionality of the existing Intranet infrastructure. |
