Description
Summary:PHILIPPINE NATIONAL BANK (PNB), now a private entity operates as an expanded commercial bank or a universal bank and belongs to the Financial Services Industry (FSI). Firms under this industry satisfy the needs of individuals and corporations for financial services by obtaining funds for those who wish to invest them, providing income-earning outlets for those with funds to lend or invest, offering payments services (e.g, credit cards, bill-paying services and cash management services) and rendering financial advice. Recently, we have seen how the powerful forces of globalization, deregulation, liberalization and the opening up of the Philippine economy have caused changes in the many sectors of the society, financial services industry included. These realities all lead to one conclusion i.e., firms under the financial services industry must gear up for more intense competition as the competitive pressures will come not only from domestic sources but also from all over the world. The greatest challenge to bank management is choosing the path from the numerous options on hand as the strategy one chooses will determine if the institution will surmount competition.
