Experience of anger in high performing male and female fourth year high school students in Metro Manila

This descriptive qualitative research studies the experience of anger of the high performing fourth year high school male and female students in Metro Manila. Specifically, it concentrated on the causes and expression of anger of these students. Focus Group discussions were used in gathering the data from the subjects. The data were eventually categorized and presented in the form of tables. The findings have shown that the subjects of the research consider lack of recognition and unacceptable behavior of the parents, teachers and their peers as the principal causes of their anger. This may be attributed to their need to develop their own individual identities. Suppression emerged as the main style to cope with their anger. Another way to cope with anger was by stopping to create anger. This could be because the Filipinos refrain from overt displays of aggression and maintain a pleasant disposition. With regard to the causes and coping with anger, there do not seem to be differences between the male and the female high performing fourth year high school students.
