Summary:This study determines the status of secondary physics education in selected schools using the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) individualized curriculum. The study is based on the principle that the quality of physics program in both public and private institutions including those using A.C.E. as an alternative curriculum contributes to the country's goal of industrialization.The research used the descriptive survey technique and data were gathered through research-made questionnaire, opinionaire, and existing records. The samples of the study consisted of 13 physics teachers and 84 high school senior students in 13 selected schools in the National Capital Region during the School Year 2000-2001. The school records on National Secondary Assessment Test (NSAT) results were also examined to determine the performance of A.C.E. students in the last five years. The study revealed the following (1) most physics teachers involved in the study have inadequate academic preparation and professional training to teach physics (2) despite support, laboratory facilities and equipment, reference materials and educational resources were found to be inadequate (3) most A.C.E. schools under study use various forms of instructional media like cassettes, videos and other computer-based multimedia to help ensure the finest education possible (4) A.C.E. Physics curriculum consists of twelve self-paced Packets of Accelerated Christian Education materials (PACEs) designed for students to complete them in one academic year (5) mathematics, english, and science are the most-liked subjects of the students (6) the students have the feeling of liking for and interest in the Physics course and (7) in general, the students from selected A.C.E. schools included in this study performed well in the NSAT in the last five years.The researcher concludes that the strength of A.C.E. Physics curriculum lies in the design of PACEs as evidenced by the students' interest in physics despite the lack of academically prepared physics teachers and inadequacy of facilities and resources.
