Summary:The study describes the organizational characteristics of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Mother of God (SFIC) - owned and administered schools in terms of leadership processes, motivational forces, communication processes, interaction-influence processes, decision-making processes and control processes in the Grade School Department during the School Year 2000-2001. The study used the descriptive research design with the Profile of Organizational Characteristics questionnaire as the main tool for gathering the data. The SFIC principals and teachers of the two SFIC owned schools and three administered schools were the respondents of the study. The data gathered from the questionnaire were treated quantitatively by using the weighted average and percentage. The respondents were also interviewed to substantiate the findings of the study. Results revealed that there was disparity in the perceptions of the SFIC principals and teachers regarding the organizational characteristics and management system of the two SFIC owned schools. On the other hand, there was agreement in the perceptions of the SFIC principals and teachers regarding the organizational characteristics and management system of the three SFIC administered schools. Two conclusions can be made: 1) the administrative experiences of the SFIC educational managers and the teachers supportive behavior, acceptance and cooperation are the important factors that contribute to the strong organizational characteristics of the SFIC owned and administered schools and 2) efforts expended by the SFIC principals in fostering a supportive environment through the management processes and their common vision and charism redound to a positive perception of the organizational characteristics and management system of the SFIC owned and administered schools.
