John. The Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), a major Research and Development agency in the Philippines is currently implementing a five-year plan aimed at building capability for locally developed integrated circuits (ICs). Over the years, the ASTI has pursued research interests especially in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). In one of its recent programs, the ASTI introduced various institutions to IC design, however the high costs of IC design software licenses were noted to constitute a major hurdle for the universities to teach and include IC design in their curricula. To meet up with this challenge, ASTI's Microelectronic Division (MED), with the initiative of the VCTI (Virtual Center for Technology Innovation)-Micro group, came up with the idea of conducting trainings to introduce university faculty members to VLSI Design using Alliance VLSI CAD System. In compliance with the requirements of the degree, the research was completed at the Advanced Science and Technological Institute, UP Diliman. This is an introductory material on the Alliance VLSI CAD System. Alliance is a complete set of free CAD tools for the specification, design and validation of mainly digital VLSI circuits. It includes a VHDL compiler and simulator, logic synthesis tools, and automatic place and route tools. The research presents the Alliance CAD System through the use of design modules prepared to familiarize users with the software environment and the design techniques utilized. As there are various tools in Alliance software, this presentation only considers applicable tools to accomplish tasks at hand. The goal of the ASTI project (Alliance VLSI CAD System distribution package development) was to acquire expertise on the use of the Alliance System software, produce copies of the software and documentation on CDs to be used for future technical trainings. This goal was achieved during the author's stay at ASTI and the project was exhibited during the ADTI week celebration 2002, during which free CDs containing the Alliance Software and documentation were distributed to various faculty.Included in this presentation is the documentation of the project accomplised at ASTI as well as the results for further investigation into the use of the software in the design of components for a 32-bit processor. 2002-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/2918 Master's Theses English Animo Repository CAD/CAM systems Computer-aided design Integrated circuits -- Design and construction -- Data processing Engineering Education
