Description
Summary:This study focuses on student model based diagnosis, specifically MEDD's student model, on supporting novices in the context of Case Based Reasoning. A subset of the processes involved in Case Based Reasoning which are building the case library, organizing the cases and retrieving similar cases were performed. Building the case library involves the selection of the appropriate data structure and appropriate index in organizing the cases. Furthermore, retrieving similar cases also involves the identification of the suitable similarity metric being utilized. A program simulation was created and an expert was asked to validate the retrieved cases. It was verified and shown that MEDD's knowledge level error is an appropriate index in organizing the cases and a suitable similarity metric in retrieving similar cases. The appropriate data structure was also presented based on the time and space requirements being utilized. Furthermore, the selection was also based on the percentages of fully organized cases and accurately retrieved cases.
