The structures of the polyprenols (C1a and C1b) were elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, and confirmed by comparison with the spectral data of betuladecaprenol and betulaundecaprenol reported in the literature. Lutein (C3) was identified by comparison of its 1H NMR data with those found in the literature. Eight known compounds namely, lagerenyl acetate (L14a), 24-methylenecycloartanyl acetate (L22a), tinotufolin D (L3a), tinotufolin C (L3b), sitosterol (L31), sitosteryl acetate (L21b), phytol (L5), lutein (L18) and two possible new compounds (L14b and L22b) were obtained from the air-dried leaves of L. speciosa by gravity column chromatography.
