Differences in the utilization of emotion-socialization strategies of mothers and fathers between male and female adolescents were also determined by interviewing six parents of adolescent males and six parents of adolescent females. Results showed that there is a significant difference in the physical, verbal and facial expression and avoidance strategies that is utilized by parents of male and female adolescents. Mothers and fathers were also found to be significantly different in utilizing emotion socialization strategies between male and female adolescents. Interview responses were classified into themes in terms of physical affection, verbal expression, approach towards grievenances, approach when distressed, openness of one emotions, and rewards.
