An assessment of e-wallet adoption among the finance employees of selected Philippine government agencies

Adopting and accepting financial technologies like e-wallets in one’s professional life, specifically in the line of government, takes tedious time and hard consideration motivated by external and internal factors. This paper aimed to study the factors affecting a government professional’s behavioral intention to adopt e-wallet systems in their line of work. Particularly, system adoption factors (i.e., trust, security, usefulness, convenience, infrastructure, perceived risk, perceived cost) were tested to determine whether they have a significant effect on the behavioral intention of government employees to adopt e-wallets in their profession aligned with the Technology Acceptance Model, Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, Conceptual Framework for Cashless Society, and Ozkan et al. (2010)’s operational framework. This formal, quantitative, causal-explanatory study through purposive sampling sought 64 finance employees from different Philippine government agencies for data collection. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling. Results showed that only trust, usefulness, and convenience significantly affect the behavioral intention of finance government employees to adopt e-wallets in their jobs. Moreover, as the baseline assessment on the level of acceptance of finance government employees with e-wallets, these three constructs are the main variables of consideration.
