Summary: | This thesis looked into the behavior and identity of Avid K-pop fans among the Filipino Millennial through a 15-20 minute Documentary. The researchers will conduct both survey questionnaires and online interviews to determine how Filipino Millennial avid fans adapted K-pop music in their lives. As K-pop is a relatively new music, its popularity has exploded in the Philippines during the last several decades. It is also clear that Filipinos have integrated Korean culture into different social aspects of their daily life. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the social nuances of local K-pop fans by focusing on two main goals: a) to investigate the construction of K-pop fan identity, and b) to comprehend what it means to be a K-pop fan. To learn about the experiences, attitudes, values, and lifestyles of K-pop fans, a qualitative approach was used, which included participant observation and semi-structured in-depth interviews. This means that a K-pop fan's identity may be deduced from the way they speak and socialize, as well as their buying intention and behavior and how they dress. Aside from that, being a K-pop fan has a unique connotation that goes beyond that of a music genre enthusiast. It can range from giving fans a sense of belonging to unlocking their skill and potential, providing a platform for escapism, and providing emotional and motivational support through a para-social relationship. Although the relationship between a fan and an idol is sometimes viewed as one-sided, it has benefited the fan in some way. This research shows that fans can also be active producers and content makers, contradicting the popular belief that fans are a passive entity. The majority of Korean culture has undeniably swept the Philippines in recent years- restaurants, cosmetics, television dramas, Korean popular culture and Korean pop-music. However, the mainstream media are not adequately covering the stories and viewpoints about Filipino Millennial Kpop fans. |
