It centers on people who live-stream activities to an audience on internet platforms like Twitch and Facebook Live. These figures, known as streamers, cultivate communities with their audience and create a unique type of relationship known as a parasocial relationship. Streamers, a psychologist, and fans were asked what they believe these relationships mean and what they can spell for relationships in the present and future. The project aims to show people how having these types of hobbies and relationships affect mental health for the better, especially in a time of isolation. By showing the world of streaming, the audience is exposed to a fascinating new way of socializing and entertaining themselves. This project can help audience members realize and contextualize their current relationships in an increasingly digital and currently isolated environment. The proponents added visuals including videos and a podcast episode to expand the scope of the project. The goal was to showcase the aspects of streaming and parasocial relationships beyond just text by showing what streams looked like as well as diving deep into what defines a parasocial relationship via a podcast. The proponents understand the limitations of the pandemic and conducted all data gathering, research, and publishing via the internet. The article was published specifically in the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s pop culture site, InqPop. The output was a 4,390 word article, with 1 podcast episode, 2 videos, and multiple gifs and photos. 2022-01-20T08:00:00Z text application/pdf https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etdb_comm/51 https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/context/etdb_comm/article/1022/viewcontent/2021_Fallarme_Mercado_Roxas_The_Screen_and_Her_Full_text.pdf Communication Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Internet Digital media Streaming technology (Telecommunications) Communication Technology and New Media |
