Description
Summary:Tiis Ganda is a creative video documentary on the gender transitioning of Danielle Zapanta, a 19-year-old transwoman. It focuses on her struggles in coming to terms with her gender identity and the decision to transition. The documentary also covers the misconceptions that surround the lived experiences of a transwoman in Philippine society. With a lack of representation of the transgender community in the media landscape, the documentary fills in a gap where it highlights the non-linear process of transitioning through Danielle’s perspective and how social media plays a vital role in understanding herself. New media opens the doors to a cacophony of information that breeds a new generation of transgender people. Transitioning is a life-long process. The documentary aims to give viewers a glimpse of the aspirations she has set for herself and the ways in which she makes them a reality – in the past, present, and future. Apart from this, the documentary also renders insights from an expert and the subject’s mother that help decompartmentalize the facets which affect the subject’s journey. This thesis project is a hybrid production – composed of online and face-to-face interviews, along with scenes shot by the subject during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and scenes shot by the researchers under approved filming conditions. The researchers followed the case study for seven months from November 2021 until May 2022. 1080p MP4 format.
