Summary: | Guided by dialogic theory (Ju & Dong, 2023; Lane, 2020), the research investigates dialogic communication of a Filipino non-governmental organization advocating for gender equality, the Philippine Anti-Discrimination Alliance of Youth Leaders (PANTAY). This research addresses the gap in previous dialogic studies that lacked focus on stakeholders' perspectives.
Semi-structured interviews were employed exploring both PANTAY and parther youth organizations’ insights to identify how dialogue is mutually practiced. These discussions highlighted the importance of representation for diverse groups like the LGBTQIA+ community in the Philippines. Additionally, results revealed that pre-existing relationships between PANTAY and stakeholders cultivate an "informal" way of communicating, which hones a congenial environment within their network.
With the queer community being a niche demographic, their communication practices are bounded by their own language and lived realities as a marginalized group.
Thematic analysis revealed that their current dialogic state is shallow dialogue. As a result, well-founded recommendations were created to achieve true dialogue. |
