Summary:The objective of the study was to develop an online module for remote learning. The three goals of the module are the following: (1) to encourage the use of online modules, (2) to help grade 11 STEM students improve on their academic writing skills, (3) and to enhance the quality of learning and teaching during online learning. Moreover, the online learning modules were developed to help students with their writing skills in the remote learning setting. Through the theoretical bases of the Cognitive Process Theory of Writing by Flower and Hayes (1981) and Zone of Proximal Development and Scaffolding by Vygotsky, the researchers were able to develop five online learning modules that focused on improving the academic writing of Grade 11 STEM students. The reason for having focused on the writing skill was that it is not given as much importance in the said field. Despite that, it is still important to create writing modules for students to understand scientific concepts, and thus lowering the barrier brought about by the jargon in the field of STEM.Keywords: Academic writing, remote learning, distance learning, online modules, COVID-19, online learning module development
