Summary: | The purpose of this study was to assess whether or not Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) would be feasible to apply as a means of controlling blood sugar levels in one’s home. In recent years, PBMT has gained traction for its health benefits as it aids in treating various ailments, stimulates healing, and can enhance cell proliferation and differentiation. Three subjects took part in this research, with two subjects being 21-year-old individuals who are prone to diabetes through genetic effects and a 55-year-old individual with Type 2 diabetes. These three subjects were divided into two groups in which one 21-year-old and the 55-year-old did not have any changes to their diet, nor were they required to exercise, while the other 21-year-old was subjected to a diet and exercise. The research utilized a handheld PBMT device purchased from Hooga Health which irradiates 80 mW/cm^2, irradiating both 660 nm and 850 nm, 6 inches from the body, for 10 minutes on three subjects’ backs, every day for 5 weeks. The subjects’ blood sugar levels were taken every day before breakfast and every night after PBMT. Results show that PBMT has a significant effect on all subjects, but especially on the 21-year-old with changes to their diet and exercise. The significant effect of PBMT on the subjects’ blood sugar levels exhibits that PBMT is a viable option to control blood sugar levels at home in a cheap, and non-invasive manner. |
